Chloe is luckiest stray dog in the world.
She was wandering the streets and was hit by a car.
stay with me here folks, she really IS lucky....
Through the most fortunate turn of events, Chloe was found and dropped off at a Veterinarians house.
The Veterinarian was fully equipped to take care of her, she was in pain and badly injured. She was given antibiotics, anti-inflammatorys and medicine for pain. She even had her own kennel in her own room away from the other dogs in the house, peaceful and quiet, with a nice big comforter to sleep on.
Chloe slept for days.
A trip to the x-ray machine revealed what the Vet suspected was true.
Chloe's femur had been ripped out of the hip joint.
The Vet was Nathan, of course, and his suspicion was that she was lucky enough to have been struck squarely by the car and was tumbled underneath rather than being hit by a tire which would have most likely killed her.
So, the head of her femur was sitting above the pocket rather than in it.

A quick round of phone calls to friends and coworkers and soon a rag-tag team was assembled to fix Chloe's leg and a few other injuries.
On the day of her surgery, Chloe greeted everyone as they come into the clinic.

Just like Humpty Dumpty everyone worked together to put Chloe back together.

Nathan, having the most experience, let other do the work while he assisted. Our friend Jamie was nice enough to do the primary surgery, a femoral head osteoectomy or FHO. This means that the head of the femur is removed to allow the leg bone to slide back into the hip joint.

Dr. Jamie used a very technical piece of surgical equipment to remove the head of the femur... A hammer and chisel!

Nice work Dr. Jamie!

All fixed and back into the joint :)

Are we crazy to take on this 'project dog' and invest our money on another unwanted pet, we don't think so. This has been a very gratifying experience.
Now for the hard part.
Finding Chloe a home. First things first though, Chloe needs to learn her obedience and in the Hoyt household that means going to ....

Just kidding :)
Really though, for the next few weeks she will become an expert on basic obedience and then we can finally begin the search for a good home.
So now when you hear Nathan refer to "project dog" you'll know he is in fact talking about Chloe, one of the luckiest dogs on earth.
