Nathan's Home!

Nathan made it back safe Friday night, his flight landed in Raleigh around 1am after being held up in San Antonio.

The next day I spent lots of time in the kitchen attempting to make a camouflage fondant. Our good friend Jamie has become the first active duty Veterinarian to graduate from Ranger school! A party was being thrown in his honor and I was bringing cake.

I decided to try and duplicate the Ranger tab onto the cake for him and quickly learned that trying to copy a font exactly is nearly impossible on fondant. The camo print presented even more difficultly as I tried to find a way to make it look real and not cartoonish.

Everyone who attended was so sweet to compliment the cakes appearance but I was really happy to hear that it tasted good.

Jamie, still nearly bald from Ranger school, cuts into his cake.

Duh Katy!

Across the street from us live another couple about our age.

They have two dogs, one cat and no children... yet.

The husband is deployed and the wife, Carrie, is out of town this weekend.

I am watching their house and their pets.

They have a fence around their backyard but have also opted to use invisible fencing. There is a unit in the house that allows the dogs to access all areas of the yard and shocks them if they get too far.

Of course, the day Carrie leaves one of collars batteries runs out so off I go to Petsmart to buy more batteries for the shock collars.

Not being familiar with the collars, I take one off of the dog to take to the store with me.

I make it to the edge of her lawn, oblivious to the collar I am grasping tightly in my hand, before I get electrocuted for the next 10 feet.

I felt so stupid.

In other "duh Katy!" news...

Yesterday I tried to PAY my way onto post for about the third time. The guard says to me "Ma'am, we don't accept Mastercard."

How long has he been waiting to use that line I wonder?

2 more weeks...

Nathan will be returning home in about 2 weeks YEA!

Meanwhile, I am attempting to make the house look as though I have kept it clean these past 9 weeks. Not an easy thing to do with FOUR dogs running around and the fact that I have been a useless bum the entire 9 weeks.

Yes.

I said FOUR dogs.

Goose is still here, learning to be a well behaved house dog despite my best efforts to coax her onto the couch for cuddling.

She visited our new Vet, Dr. Jenny, to get all of her vaccines, blood tests and a microchip. She is officially a new dog with a clean bill of health. Dr. Jenny was impressed with the results of the hip surgery Goose had back in July (kudos to Dr. Jamie and Nathan). She commented that often her patients would not be using that leg quite yet but Goose has regained full use of it. She runs, jumps, and dashes up and down the stairs of house with the other dogs.

To top it off I ordered her very own dog collar with her chip ID# and name engraved on it.

All that remains is taking her through her Canine Good Citizenship training course and then hopefully we can place her into a loving home before Nathan deploys again.

Nathan is doing well, anxious to get home. He stays busy writing papers and power point presentations for class.

This past semester at my new school has gone great. I love the faculty and the campus is well funded and beautiful.

I have reapplied for the Surgical Technician program that begins next Fall and hopefully will find out sometime this Spring if I made it. The admission is based on a point system with certain classes ranking higher than others and the grades you've made a worth a certain number of points. Basically if you make awesome grades in the tougher pre-requisite classes than you will have more points.

Being a transfer student makes it a bit tricky for me since the demands of the course can often get lost in translation. Keep your fingers crossed.
